La Fondation Médéric Alzheimer lance son Appel à Projets d’Etudes et de Recherche 2011, dont le but est d’encourager les travaux de recherche portant sur les enjeux de société induits par la maladie d’Alzheimer et les maladies apparentées, ou axés sur l’amélioration de la qualité de vie des personnes malades et de leurs aidants familiaux, bénévoles et professionnels.

Ce quatrième Appel à Projets concerne des travaux de recherche en sciences humaines et sociales, en sciences économiques et politiques ou en santé publique, qui étudient de manière pluridisciplinaire une ou plusieurs des thématiques suivantes :

- Evaluation des interventions psychosociales et environnementales

- Défense, participation sociale et citoyenneté des personnes malades

- Formes complémentaires de solidarité individuelle et collective

- Spécificités linguistiques, socioculturelles et communautaires dans les représentations et la prise en charge de la maladie

- Les politiques publiques et leur impact en France et à l’étranger

MERC/CERES Best Social Science Research Prize

The Middle East Research Competition (MERC) in cooperation with Centre d’Etudes et deRecherches Economiques et Sociales (CERES), is pleased to announce a prize for the best product in social sciences. Experienced researchers to send their research product by 31 October 2010 at the email mail address provided below.
Eligibility:
Residents of the Arab countries and Turkey are eligible to apply. Residents are individuals who live in the aforementioned countries regardless of their nationality, who currently work and live in these countries and plan to reside there in the near future. Temporary residence outside the Arab countries and Turkey for study purposes does not preclude eligibility.
The prize: publication of the research in a book form and wide scale dissemination as well as an honorary certificate signed by the scientific selection committee of renowned scholars from the region. The prize will be awarded to experienced researchers, particularly recent holders of the Ph.D. degree with innovative research ideas of relevance to MERC's areas of interest
Final proposals
Book manuscripts and Ph.D. dissertations in Arabic, English and French shall be accepted. A selection committee will examine the products based on eligibility criteria. Research should not have been published before.

International summer school for doctoral and postdoctoral students

1. International Summer School for Doctoral and Post-doctoral Students: “Official Religion in the Middle East: Political Opportunities and Constraints”, Orient-Institut Beirut, Lebanon, 13-19 September 2010

The summer school will explore the political behaviour of official religious actors in different political systems of the Middle East with a focus on Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. It aims at reaching three main scientific goals:
(1) a stock-taking and analysis of the political repertoires of religious actors that operate from within the legal and semi-legal framework of their respective countries;
(2) a comparative assessment of the impact of regime structures and government policies on the political behaviour of these actors, and
(3) an assessment of the contribution of official religious actors to issues negotiated in the political arenas of their respective societies. On the level of academic cooperation, the summer school aims at helping to establish an international and interdisciplinary network of researchers working on this important, but hitherto rather neglected topic.

The summer school will bring together 15 postgraduate students (5 from Germany, 5 from other European countries, 5 from Middle Eastern countries) to be taught during seven working days in Beirut by a faculty of, all in all, 15 university professors and religious practitioners from four countries (Germany, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey).

Teaching in Beirut will take place via a daily combination of four types of classes: reading seminars (devoted to important source texts and theoretical issues); lectures (devoted to a longer presentation of a faculty member, followed by a questions-and-answers block); round-table talks with reli-gious practitioners; and student workshops (devoted to the presentation and discussion of the stu-dents’ individual research projects).

Effective travel costs of successful applicants will be reimbursed up to a maximum of 1.000 EUR per person. In addition, the program will provide accommodation (7 nights) and meals in Beirut for the duration of the summer school.

The Summer School is open to applications from postgraduate students (PhD students as well as Post-Doc students) from European and Middle Eastern countries with research projects from all fields of the humanities and the social sciences that are related to Middle Eastern Studies and have a special focus on religion and politics. Good acquaintance with regional languages will be considered as an asset. Applicants should be fluent in English and have at least a passive knowledge of French.

Crisis Group Fellowship Program: Middle East and North Africa

Crisis Group announce the launch of its first-ever Fellowship Program. The Fellowship will be a working one wherein three fellows will be hired to work for two years in the field with Crisis Group. Under the terms of the IDRC (Canada) grant in support of this Program, two fellows will be placed in the Middle East and North Africa program and one in the West Africa project. Candidates who are nationals from the regions of MENA and West Africa are the intended beneficiaries of the Program.

FELLOW, Middle East and North Africa

Role:

Based in one of Crisis Group’s MENA locations (Beirut, Cairo, Damascus or Jerusalem) and under supervision of a mentor, the fellow will research and contribute to reports on security, political, and social issues related to the Middle East or North Africa.

Responsibilities:

• Conducts field research and provides analysis on prevailing security, social, legal, human rights, and political issues as drivers of armed conflict;
• Proposes policy initiatives for governmental, intergovernmental, political, and nongovernmental stakeholders to address and resolve sources of conflict; and,
• Prepares supervised reports and briefing papers setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of politics and society in the Middle East or North Africa;
• Experience in political analysis and conflict prevention;
• One to three years professional experience in government, academia, international organisations, NGOs or journalism;
• Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills;
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages required;
• Degree in international relations, political science, journalism, sociology or equivalent through experience;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, and an ability to work as part of a team; and,
• Candidate must be nationals of the Middle East or North Africa region.

The Arab Water Academy PhD Programme: call for application

The Arab Water Academy in Abu Dhabi invites applications for its scholarship programs to pursue doctoral studies. Successful candidates are expected to begin the program in fall 2010 and will be expected to finish their theses in three to four years.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• must be a citizen and resident of one of the MENA countries. Candidates will have a moral commitment to go back and work in their home countries (or the MENA region) for at least 2 years after completion of the PhD program.
• must hold a master’s degree or equivalent that is recognized as valid for admission to PhD programs offered by international universities.
• must be proficient in the chosen language of study (French, English, Spanish).

- A detailed Curriculum Vitae
- Certified copies of their degrees along with undergraduate and Master’s degree transcripts

New PhD positions in the profile area Global Interactions
vacancy number: 10-019 In the coming five years (2010-2014) the University of Leiden has made available special funds to build an integrated interdisciplinary thematic profile area which focuses on Global interactions of people, cultures and power through the ages. One of the main aims is to integrate and mobilise the knowledge and expertise in the field of globalisation, with a special stress on migration and global heritage. In this profile area the faculties of the Humanities (History, Cultural Studies, Religious Studies, Philosophy), Social Sciences (Anthropology) and Archeology, are involved. In order to stimulate this interdisciplinary initiative the profile area is looking for applicants to fill the position of four PhD positions.

Applicants, with an MA degree and proficiency in English, are asked to submit a concrete interdisciplinary research plan which directly speaks to at least one of the two focus points of the program (migration and global heritage). In order to stimulate interdisciplinarity each projects will be supervised by two advisors from different disciplines. Candidates can already indicate whom they would like to work with from the Leiden faculty or should make clear what disciplinary background they are looking for in their supervisors. We strongly advice applicants to consult the full length position paper of the profile area (to be downloaded from the profile area website) and position their research plans within this conceptual framework. Apart from a letter of motivation, we expect two letters of recommendation and a two page research proposal (1000 words).

The positions are 1,0 fte for 4 years (or 0,8 for 5 years). The Ph.D. candidates will be appointed initially for eighteen months. At satisfactory performance during that period, the appointment will be renewed for another two and a half years. Remuneration will be € 2,042 gross per calendar month in the first year, increasing to a maximum of € 2,612 gross per calendar month in the fourth year is in accordance with current pay scales as indicated in the ‘CAO voor Nederlandse Universiteiten’. You will also receive a end-of-year bonus of 8.3% of your yearly income.

Collège doctoral maghrébin en sciences de gestion : appel à candidature

Le collège doctoral maghrébin en sciences de gestion a pour objectif de contribuer à la formation, à la recherche et aux activités de recherche d’une trentaine de doctorants maghrébins. C’est un espace de perfectionnement et d’échanges d’expérience pour des doctorants entamant une thèse.

Mission

Le collège doctoral a pour mission de dispenser aux doctorants une formation complémentaire aux programmes de leur établissement d’origine. Le programme, structuré sur trois ans, se décline en séminaires, ateliers et conférences, assurant aux doctorants la maîtrise des théories et des méthodes contemporaines en sciences de gestion. Il leur offre un accompagnement à la rédaction et à la soutenance de thèse dans des délais raisonnables.

Le collège n’est pas une école doctorale et ne délivre pas de diplômes. Ces derniers demeurent du ressort de l’établissement d’origine du doctorant.

Concours photos UNESCO 2010 (Maghreb) – 1er mars 2010

Dans le cadre de la Décennie des Nations Unies pour l’Education au Développement Durable (2005-2014), le Bureau de l’UNESCO à Rabat, en partenariat avec les Commissions Nationales des pays participants (Algérie, Maroc, Mauritanie et Tunisie), organise la deuxième édition du concours photos. Le thème choisit pour cette nouvelle édition est « Les réserves de biosphères » afin de vulgariser le concept de biosphère et de sensibiliser le grand public à la préservation des ressources naturelles et au développement durable. L’UNESCO estime que l’utilisation et la conservation des terres et des ressources en eau devraient aller de pair et qu’une approche interdisciplinaire et une vision à long terme sont essentielles. Leur concept dépasse celui des aires de conservation traditionnelles grâce à la combinaison d’aires centrales protégées avec des zones où le développement durable est encouragé par les populations locales et les entreprises qui s’y trouvent.

Master Spécialisé "Sciences de la préservation du patrimoine culturel au Maroc"

L'Université Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah annonce que l'appel à candidatures concernant le Master Spécialisé "Sciences de la préservation du patrimoine culturel au Maroc" est lancé

Ce master qui bénéficie d'un soutien financier de la Commission européenne a pour objectif de former de jeunes étudiants dans des disciplines nouvelles répondant aux besoins des professionnels du patrimoine culturel et aptes à innover dans ce secteur prometteur pour le développement économique, culturel et social du pays.

Les étudiants de ce master bénéficieront d'une formation de haute qualité qui sera assurée par des spécialistes du domaine du patrimoine marocains et européens. Aussi, sur le plan partique ces étudiants effectueront un stage - bourses et frais de transports seront pris en charge par le master - dans des institutions nationales et/ou internationales.
