Assistant Professor of French and Arabic

The Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Tennessee seeks applications for a tenure-track position in French and Francophone studies at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall 2011. The position entails normally teaching two courses per semester at all levels (undergraduate and graduate); some courses will be offered in the French program and some in the Arabic program. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong record of research productivity in her/his field.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in French or a related field (or ABD with promise of completion by August 2011); specialization in the literature and/or culture of the Maghreb; native or near-native fluency in French and English essential, with proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic.

Preferred Qualifications: Interest in cinema studies, race and ethnicity studies, or postcolonial studies desirable.
